Product of the year Winners 2020!

November 15, 2019

Every year, Australian consumers and a jury of industry experts vote for innovative and award-winning products in the running for Product of the Year Australia. To be considered, and stand a chance at earning the coveted POY 2020 red seal, products must demonstrate innovation in design, function or packaging. The seal is your assurance that the product has undergone a rigorous judging process, including being reviewed by an informed jury and over 10,000 everyday Australians.
The Red Wine Refining and Exfoliating Mask we created for brand Skin Nutrient™ has been voted the best Skin Care Mask by Product of the Year 2020!   Our Red Wine mask is a 2-in-1 formula! First, it works by refreshing the outermost layers of the skin. Second, the red wine extracts help to tighten the skin making your pores smaller. Most importantly, the Eco-friendly formula is jammed packed with antioxidants which help to protect and strengthen the skin.
What makes it Eco-Friendly? Well, last year, 130,000 tonnes of wine waste (pomace) was produced in South Australia alone. This may not seem to be a significant issue, as it turns out the waste is very hard to safely and economically get rid of. Unfortunately, winemakers are unable to feed it to livestock due to high acidity levels. Some winemakers use it in their crops as a fertilizer. However, most have to store it in large metal silos as the waste breaks down over time.
So, we decided to find a way to use the pomace as an ingredient in our skincare range. We use an advanced extraction method to extract the nutrient-rich essence and turn it into a product that loves your skin!
The mask may be used as an exfoliating scrub or a chemical peel mask. For quick exfoliation, apply directly to the skin and gently massage for 60 seconds. For a chemical peel effect, apply evenly across the face and neck and leave on for no longer than 5 minutes. The product has a pleasant red wine scent and red skin is expected after the treatment.
The formula is not only considerate of the environment, but it is also easy on the wallet. In fact, the mask treatment can last up to 10 uses. Which is the equivalent of 10 trips to your local aesthetician, an average cost of $75-$200

Skin Nutrient’s Marketing Executive Breanna Sheather, said: “The Red Wine Face Mask certainly met and even exceeded the rigorous criteria set by Product of the Year as a result of creative thinking, extensive research and the ability to recycle ingredients – which otherwise might have become landfill”. Ms Sheather said, “Skin Nutrient’s Red Wine Refining and Exfoliating Mask offers a professional chemical peel treatment in the convenience of your own home, without the expensive price tag. The product is also made with natural ingredients that are rich in antioxidants and Alpha Hydroxy Acids. If that is not convincing enough, the mask is also an eco-friendly formula that includes leftover red wineskins (pomace) as the key ingredient. The generous 150g DOY bag can last up to 10 uses! The product is considerate of the earth, great for rejuvenation and protection from daily pollutants. The Skin Nutrient product development team is very proud of our latest red wine mask innovation. We feel it is fulfilling the needs of customers look for environmentally friendly options that are effective and easy on the wallet. We are equally proud to offer consumers a safe, cruelty-free, nasty preservative-free, Australian made alternatives”.

Skin Nutrient™ Sun Barrier Tone-Up Whitening Sunscreen has been voted the best in Sun Care by Product of the Year 2020!
The Tone-up Sunscreen we created for Skin Nutrient™ is not your ordinary sun shield. Just like the red wine mask, this formula is multi-functional. Not only does it protect the skin from a broad spectrum of UVA and UVB rays, but also instantly brightens the skin. The product works like a tinted primer, blurring fine lines and fading pigmentation, all while providing sheer coverage!
The dry-touch SPF 50+ formula is quickly absorbed by the skin, leaving a light-weight velvet feel. This makes it easy and comfortable to apply the sunscreen underneath makeup or as an alternative to foundation.
We use a variety of nourishing ingredients that not only protects the skin but also helps to rejuvenate signs of ageing. With prolonged use, the product will prevent the appearance of sunspots, freckles and melanin formation.

Skin Nutrient’s Marketing Executive Breanna Sheather, said: “Australia is the skin cancer capital of the world. According to the Cancer Council Australia, two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they are 70. Due to the hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica that has spread to Australasia, more UV rays reach Australia. Also, 85% of the population live in 50km of the coastline. These factors mean that Australia is seen as a critical contributor to the global increase in demand for sun care products. These statistics made us analyze the current sun care products on the markets and why consumers are not wearing sunscreen. Our market research came back with a common theme, the general consensus complained that sunscreen is either too sticky, thick or oily to wear daily. Furthermore, our study also told us that there was a growing demand for multi-functional sun care products that address the signs of ageing. Our solution was to create user-friendly sunscreen, designed to encourage a comfortable, non-greasy “barely-there” skincare experience. With the added benefit of a tinted anti-aging and skin brightening function. We are delighted with the final result, winning Product of the Year 2020 firmly encourages our efforts and future plans for more innovative skincare solutions”.
